We just opened our saltwater pool Monday. The combine chlorine is 5.2 and the free chlorine is 1. The pool is about 27,500 gallons. Any advice on how I can adjust these readings?

What test kit did you use to measure CC of 5.2 and FC of 1.
What were the other measurements? pH, TA, CH, CYA?
What chemicals were added to the water last season, at closing or at opening?

So my husband used the Taylor test kit. The pH is 7.0, the TA is 65, the CH is 40 and the CYA is zero. We’re not real sure that much if any chemicals were put in at the closing last year because we had our guy do it late in the season where it was a little chilly even.

I would add 10 ppm of liquid chlorine to the water and test your FC level after it circulates for 30 minutes.
Report what Fc level you get.

So my husband is the one taking care of the pool and I’m in charge of messaging! This morning, our free chlorine is .4 and our combine chlorine is 5.8. We got some 11% liquid chlorine. How many gallons would we need to put in our 27,000 gallon pool? Also, with the CYA so low, we just started putting stabilizer in a sock in the skimmer. Do we need this level to be in the normal range before we shock it with the liquid chlorine or does it not matter? Should we do this when the sun is going down or does that matter? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
Switch to 10ml samples. Each drop is 0.5 FC. There's no need to be 0.2 each, and you'll save 2.5X the supplies.

Ok. After three half hours rounds of super chlorinating to 10 ppm and testing, the free chlorine is holding 1 and the CC has dropped from 6.0 to less than .5. What would you recommend we do now? Thank you!

- You will know when the chlorine begins to hold when you see FC testing > 3 ppm after 30 minutes.
- When you see a significant jump in FC from the prior 30-minute test CYA can be added back into the pool. Limit the CYA to 30 ppm for the duration of the process
- Increase the FC target to 12 ppm and follow the steps in the SLAM Process until the criteria of “Done” are all met.
Husband did the 10 ppm and waited a half hour 2 more times. After messing with it all evening actually, here’s where we are. FC is 5.0 and CC is 1.5. I think he has about had it. We are open to any and all suggestions but may just have to hire someone to come look at it.
