Newbie with a cloudy pool

You did the OCLT correctly :goodjob: and you found, as others have indicted, that you need to shock. CC>0.5ppm and an OCLT of 13.5 ppm (will be <1 ppm when you are done with process) sure indicates you have organics in your pool which your chlorine is killing.

Ok, I added 1307oz of bleach based on what the pool calc app said to do in order to raise FC from 2 to 23. Guess i might have added too much or my pool is smaller than i thought. Waited an hour and tested..
FC 28
CC .5
TA- forgot to do :(
CH 290
CYA 70

I have a couple questions.

1. When I do the CC test I put 5 drops of R-0003 then add 1 drop of R-0871 and the water turns clear. But if it sets for 30 seconds it starts to turn super pale pink. Should I ignore that?

2.Is this "normal" to have fluctuations in CH? Should I not be concerned with other results until my shocking process is finished?

Thanks again everyone for your help!

Not a problem, just adjust in the future.

Ignore it, that always happens if you let it sit too long. Your 1 drop is the right reading meaning your CC is <0.5 ppm.

CH is a tough measurement to make, you always need to be swirling and adding reagent. Additionally, the accuracy of the test up in your range is +/-10%

Woo hoo!!! I think I did it!!!! Last night I added 10% chlorine to keep my shock level at 23, tested an hour later (at 1am... So tired!) and my FC was 29 and CC was 1. This morning my FC is 28.5 and my CC is <.5. That means I passed the OCLT, right?? So now I just let my chlorine drop to normal range and then test for everything and adjust as needed right?

Thank so much everyone!!!!

It looks like it, but there is a mystery: Your cya keeps going up :|

Do you have an auto-chlorinator on your pool? ...or... are you using trichlor pucks (in a skimmer or floater) or dichlor powder?

Safe to swim when FC is greater than the minimum and less than the shock level for you CYA, the pH is in range, your CC are not more than 0.5ppm and the water is clear.

Enjoy :goodjob:

Hey DruCrw1! :)
Good Job! :goodjob:
Looks like your on your way to having a great summer! Just stay between 4 and 6ppm chlorine is normal range with CYA of 50ppm.
I have my pool at 50 CYA also and I bump mine up to 7 to 7.5 ppm chlorine so when I dose every 24 hours I'm down at 4 or 4.5. chlorine. My pool loses 3 to 3.5ppm chlorine daily in the summer.
