People I need your help! I got my pool built in 2018 so this will be our 3rd year in operation. My pool is open about three weeks ago and I am noticing now the following issues with my plaster. I’m not sure if they Are actual issues or if this is what naturally happens with gray plaster please help.

Welcome!

Mottling is pretty common on darker plaster finishes, particularly gray. Causes may be attributed to poor water chemistry, subpar application/materials, or a combination of both. If you haven't already, invest in a good test kit and follow TFP recommendations for water chemistry to mitigate further discoloration. See my sig for the recommended test kit.

Search this site for mottling. Also review this article from TFP Wiki:

So you think it’s mottling?

When I used the term mottling, I was referring to the blotchy variations in color; a symptom as opposed to a cause.

What do you think of the picture of the step?
