Hi! We have a 18x36 rectangular pool. Roughly 26,500 gallon pool. Did a reno in Feb this year. Also had pool deck redone with new concrete.
We live in a semi rural area and have a cistern for water which is collected from roof (all run through filters and uv system). However pool water was trucked in by water hauler.

There was quite a bit of debris/dust etc on the white fiberglas steps that I planned on cleaning before the liner went it. I believe the concrete crew cleaned up what they could but not to the level I would have done. Once pool was filled it was easy to see there rusty pin head spots on the steps. Worse were opposite the return. No one seem to know what caused it or how to address it. I had multiple suggestions. Vitamin c did nothing. Pool builder had me speak to a pool store owner and had me use UC Pool stain Treat. I put it in a skimmer sock and left it for a bit on the spots. Which worked well but got tired of messing with it figured I will address the remaining spots when i open the pool next year.

Fast forward to mid may started seeing small bits of algae on the wall near skimmer and a spot on the floor. Pool builder had told me to use trichlor (in line feeder with flow adjustment) to regulate how much chlorine (and CYA) went to the pool. I had on the lowest setting and once I felt cya was at a manageable level I took the tabs out. I should be around 40ppm. Tablets has been removed for about 2weeks. Then use a gallong of LC once a week and O would be good. Prior to finding this forum I had been using strips, then purchased one of taylor kits.

Anyhow bc of the algae and finding this forum I started a slam on June 17th. 18th was my first full day. I checking levels every few hours on my last test at 3:30 I add LC and was getting ready to brush the pool and noticed purple on our grey drain color. Shut the pump down and took a picture. To get a closer look. Does anyone have an idea what would cause that?

Copper maybe? Do you see staining anywhere else? Have any algaecides or other products (especially called "Blue") been added to the water you can think of?
We did use an algecide but I made sure it didnt have copper in it. It was some type of polyquat?

No staining any where else. And have not used any thing with “blue” in the name.

Other products I tried warly on for our steps were these. But not the entire product except for the metal stain treat. All were use in skimmer socks on steps.

Sorry…* “pool stain treat”

Might also help if you post a full set of water test results. Did you get the Taylor K-2006C kit? If so, I would specify that in your signature as well so you don't asked the same question a million times. :)
The test kit I have is the Taylor 2005. I additionally bought the fas dpd. Is there a test for high ph. I have been using the log does that post the test results?

With the Taylor K-2005 and the FAS-DPD (K-1515) tests, you essentially have a K-2006
Is your K-2005 a reagular K-2005 (0.75oz bottles)or the K-2005C (2oz bottles)?

List your test kit as a K-2006 in your signature.

In PoolMath link to your forum account - same email and password for both - and your safed test results will show. Right now they don't.
Or post here as follows:

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA
Water temperature

Ok I think I have the sharing option selected from pool math.

I have 2005 basic with .075 oz bottles, not commercial. But I have been buying the larger replacements. I misstated I have had the kit for a while now so have been replacing reagents before they expire.

Fc 14.5
Cc 0
Ph 7.8
Ta 80
Ch 225
Cya 40
Water temp 85. This was 3:30pm est. performing slam. Target fc 16.

Great - add K-2006 to your signature, along with other specifics about your equipment.

Remember, the pH test is invalid with FC > 10.

Your PoolMath logs are showing on my iPhone now.

Is the signature just in my profile? Not familiar with navigating around the site. I do have equipment listed on I believe the profile. ;-)
