New to TFP Emptying Pool Now

Hi everyone, I am in Northern California, Sacramento and have a 24000 gallon in ground plaster pool. Purchased the home 5 years ago and had the pool replastered in the first month to repair issues. Unfortunately I have been following the Leslies Pool regiment of constantly bringing them water every week and spending $$$$ every year UNTIL I found this forum!!! I ordered the Taylor K-2006C test kit and the findings are shocking..... My CYA is at 180 so I am draining the pool right now, probably going to go for 80% exchange based on what I have been seeing here. We haven't had a rainstorm for 3 months and our lakes are down hundreds of feet so I assume the water table is not going to be an issue with the pool lifting. I am looking forward to learning the proper way to keep my pool clean and safe as I have 14 grandchildren some of who come over daily to swim. I invite any commentary and direction! Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum!
Do not let the plaster dry out with sun shining on it. It can easily crack and/or spall.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

Thanks mknauss, I am up at dawn to keep it wet and refill, it is dark here and I just wet it down well. So excited to start with a clean plate!
