Hi! What a great resource you have provided! I'm kind of overwhelmed as a new pool owner and underwhelmed with the "local pool guys" ability to watch our pool as advertised.

Because of the latter, I decided to browse online and stumbled upon this place. Thank You. I also bought a Taylor K-2006C test kit as it seemed like it was popular here. Here are my today's test results. Any advise appreciated. Water is just barely cloudy, but old test kit showed almost NO Chlorine 3 days ago, salt level was only 2600, so I added 2 bags of salt and two Chlorine tabs into skimmer (and fired pool guy who hadn't been out in 11 days).

Today:

FC 3.2
CC .8
pH 7.6
TA 160 (high)
CH 100
CYA less than 30 (stayed clear to the top, so I guess too low?)

My Intellichlor is set to 30%
Salt level is at 3200
Water temp is 88 degrees (way too hot for me but wife and kids love it on our cooler nights).

We keep it covered every night, but open it every day for at least 8-10 hours.

First you need to bring your CYA up to 30-40. Use pool math to calculate the amount to add. Don't add anymore pucks after that. I'd yank the ones you have in your skimmer too, that's sending a straight shot of chlorine into your pump, which could cause problems over time. The only Chems that should be added via the skimmer basket is DE and CYA.

After that, you'll need to SLAM with these instructions:
Pool School - SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain

Let us know if you have any questions or if something in that article doesn't make sense :D

Thanks pinguy. I guess I have 2 follow up questions. My CYA is too low and TA is too high, but everything else is right there where it's supposed to be. So you think I need to SLAM this? I'm asking because I don't know, not trying to be smart.

Also, if you SLAM the pool what are the parameters for people swimming? When is it safe?

Okay, that was 3 questions. Sorry!

TA being high will only cause pH to drift up faster than usual, it wouldn't cause the cloudiness.

The pool is safe to swim in when you've completed the SLAM, and the FC is between the minimum and shock level.

I'm pretty positive you need to SLAM. The cloudiness more than likely algae caused by low or 0 levels of FC.

berdog123 - a little extra explanation because this part was confusing to me. IF you need to SLAM, turn your SWG off during the SLAM and use the chart/numbers as a chlorine pool and as if you did not have an SWG. So add enough CYA to raise your level to 30, and then assume it's there and use those numbers as your shock level. Your shock level would be 12.
