New to testing and Balancing... need a touch of guidance

Smart move on the filter on the hose. Is it one where you can see how much stuff it caught?

The 10% left will not really do much to your overall values. Good job on letting it all mix up good then running the tests.

I will pop in and out to check on you.

ok

here is the Fill water test results
the CYA was so high before (that leaving a little behind was probably a good thing)

FC - 1.5
PH - 7.8
TA - 130
CYA - 25
CH - 500

I took a sample to the pool store and had him run the tests (he came in dead on with my numbers) so I am at least confident in my testing skills now (he also tried to sell me some shock and other stuff) which I gladly declined

the pool math is telling me to do this (I am using the TFP goals, with the exception of the PH and TA) which I read here if the CH is high those numbers should be maintained at PH 7.8 and TA of 50 I set my goal of CH at 500 since that is where I am currently

here is what the math is telling

FC - add -28 oz (12.5%)
PH - 40oz (28.3%) (to lower the TA and then aerate to raise PH)
TA -
CYA - add 15 oz by weight

So I am going to start with the Sock of Conditioner

Let me know what you think about the PH and TA - if that sounds like it is the right direction

WOW! CYA 25. Just how high was it that only 10% of the water was left and it mixed into 90% "clean" water and it was still at 25????

You are on the right track with pushing the PH down with MA and aerate to bring it back up to help with the TA.

I wish the CH was a little lower but it is what it is. Maybe you will get some good rain to help dilute some more. Be very careful to NOT use any products that might add more.

SWEET! You are really getting this testing thing and Pool Math down!

I am going to share a link with you that will show you the daily, weekly, monthly things we do to our pools.

Pool School - Basic Pool Care Schedule

I also have a small notebook I keep with my test kit. On the cover I have my fill water test results for future reference. I put all of my test results as well as any big weather events such as heavy rain, wind, leaf load, etc. I really learned my pools needs by doing this. After a while you will be able to look at your water and know what needs to be done before you test!

I have a notebook already going

Looks like great minds think alike

The water is crystal clear right now!

Not sure if it looks better or just the sense of pride in doing it myself

You guys are all top notch and I love the forum and all the help

I will run a FC and PH/ TA test in the morning

The sock full of conditioner is just about dissipated

I will
Post some pics tomorrow of the water as well :))

Try to take the picture at the same place you took the other one. Post them together to see if there is a difference in the water's shine.

That is the biggest thing I notice-if my ph is getting high I notice the water looks "dull". It is still clear and everyone else looks at me like I am crazy "your water looks great!" LOL BUT when I lower the PH then have them look at it again they can see what I am talking about. With the heavy rains we get here my PH pushes up and I lose CYA from draining to lower the water back down. Those are the two things I really have to keep on top of with my pool.

I am so glad you are finding such success with TFP! I love it here! Before I found TFP I was NEVER going to have another pool! The Pool $tore helped me ruin my last pool :(. After about 3 months my husband started making noise about getting another pool. I told him if he could find a way for ME to take care of the pool without having to go to the Pool $tore we could  Of course he found TFP and look at me now-------------A MOD on a pool forum :slidehalo: LOL Never say never! I did buy the test kit before we ordered the pool to make sure I could do it.

Thanks Kim
I definitely will do that
And support the site

Your leadership and patience is commendable!

When I started on this journey it was a tad overwhelming

But once you peel back the layers of the onion, as you have done for me, the process is pretty simple and not quite that complicated.

I guess the real difference, is pool stores try to do 2 things (sell product first) and help people manage the pool without daily activities (otherwise many people would not want to do the work)

Thanks again for the help
The water is looking good

I re tested this morning
Here are the number

I did aerate over night

FC - 2.8 (added 13oz bleach)
PH - 7.4 (added 18oz MA)
TA - 125 (came down a tad but still need it Lower)

Even the pool store guy said the fill water is alway in the 130 range

Lowing the TA will take some time. It is more of a process than a one time thing. Push your PH up to 7.8 then knock it back down.

Did you know you could turn your return eyes up so they roll the water real good? That is how I do it with my pool.
