New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Now. I would run your pump 24 hours a day until you change the cell.

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Your signature shows you have a Pentair PAC-FAB Challenger 1 HP Pump.

Yes, i was just making sure that was the pump, as I posted 2 pics in the earlier reply with pics of both the pump and the U.S. Motors Emerson EB841which I assume is the motor and wanted to make sure i wasn't confused, as to which was which- lol

I think I'm all straight - for now :)

Thank you, again! A week ago i would've made at least 5 trips to the pool store by now!

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Looked back, and yes, the motor is an Emerson. The motor plus the wet end (Pentair) create a pump.

coming back with updated numbers:

AM:

FC 1.8
CC .2
PH 7.8
TA 160
CYA 70

Afternoon (after adding 18 oz. of Cal-hypo 73% in the am)

FC 8
CC .5

Evening :

FC 10
CC .5
PH 7.8-8.0 (hard to tell)
CYA 80

Should I be concerned that the FC is so high now? It has been raining all day here and PH may be close to 8, if not there already...

SWG is set at 85% and has been running since 8 am and will run continuously until we replace the cell with the T-15 over the weekend.. I just hope im doing all this right

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

The setting on the SWCG could be high. But it is a start. When you test tomorrow, if higher than you need, lower the % to 75. See how that works.

Also, if you are not getting much sun on the pool, your FC losses will be less. But overall it will balance out.

And is it ok to vacuum and backwash at his point?

Sure. Just test FC each day at about the same time and adjust your SWCG as needed.

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Shock level for a CYA of 80 is 31 PPM. As long as you’re below that you have nothing to worry about.

Im sure that someone might have an answer to this that’s different, but there’s never a bad time to vacuum.

As far as backwashing your filter, you’re going to want to do that when your filter pressure reaches 25% over clean. It seems counterintuitive, but a dirty sand filter actually can clean your water better than a freshly backwashed one. Backwashing more often than is necessary might not provide the benefit you would think that it would.

Oh really? That’s good to know- I backwash after I vacuum each time- is that not necessary? Maybe that’s why I’m losing so much chlorine

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Installed the new t-15 cell today, replaced the pressure gauge that was broken and added Muriatic acid this afternoon. Currently running SWG at 65% for 14 hours and will monitor the FC with those settings and adjust as needed. Today was the first sunny day in weeks!

Pretty satisfied with my numbers this evening:

FC 12
CC .5
PH 7.4
TA 180 (i assume will lower in time)
CYA 80

Thanks, again, for your help! Love being in control of my pool and not reliant on the pool store!

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Numbers look good. As you add MA over time the TA will lower. With your CYA number OF 80 targeting 6-10 FC should be perfect. As we get hotter in the summer here in Hotlanta we will consume more FC during the day. A little more FC is way better than finding yourself on the low end of minimum. With the new cell you will have to experiment a few weeks with what puts you in the sweet spot. As I am learning, be patient in the % changes unless it’s urgently low. Otherwise a level of 12 is great and unnoticeable.

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Been monitoring my pool very diligently and wanted to make sure I am on the right track, as my FC seems very high! I am pretty sure it is fine ,as it is way below shock level, but just need re-assurance. FC is actually down from yesterday wen it was 16, so I assuming i have an average of 3ppm Loss overnight. Still figuring out the right % and time to run the SWG, as well...

SWG 65% for 12 hours.

FC 13
CC .5
PH 7.4
CYA 80
TA 160
Salt 3200

Thanks, in advance!

When did you test yesterday? Your overnight chlorine loss should be close to zero. If you tested yesterday morning loosing 3ppm in a day would be ok if you have a lot of sun.

If it was last night to this morning then you have an issue.

With that CYA you want to target 4-6

You can use this SWG calculator to help dial in a percentage.

Just installed new cell Saturday, so using the runtime calculator and dialing in to get it perfect - will take some time. Yes, 2 days of full sun.

Today:
2 hours ago FC was 13 (evening check)
13 hours ago FC was 13.5 (morning check)

Yesterday:
16.5 (8 pm)
11 ( 10 am )

i think the FC is so high due to higher SWG% than needed
