Installed SWG about 2 weeks ago, currently running it at 30% to keep 3.0 FC. My pool has been at 7.8pH for a while now, and after the SWG I need to add around 10oz of MA every 2-3 days when it reaches 8.0. I am getting a good amount of calcium flakes from the return jet near the Cabo shelf. I’m sure they are coming from the other ones but they are on the deep end. Currently running SWG and pump for 8 hours per day. I have a ozone/UV unit if that makes any difference.

68° F
7.8pH
100TA
370 Calcium
35 CYA
3600 salt

LSI = 0.03

I’d like to decrease the pH even further but that will take the LSI negative. Should I target 7.5pH with a -0.26 LSI?

Lower your TA towards 50-60 and the SWG flakes should stop or decrease.

Your pH is fine.

Your CYA is 40, we round up.

Negative CSI is fine down to -0.6. Your CSI will rise as the water warms in the summer.

I know you've been here since 2020 but looks like some of the basics may be part of the issue. Do you have a recommended test kit or are these pool store test results? Have you added any PS potions or are you using cheaper generics that we recommend? Lastly, can you please fill in your signature. It gets you quicker and better responses plus helps us to be efficient with volunteers time. I have very high TA well water and got the flakes you describe until I got the TA down well below 100. Also quickly deposited in the swg so I had to clean it within months of being new. Previous pool never had to clean it once after years of service. That one I managed to less than zero virtually 100% of the time. Usually between -.1 and 0. How big is your pool?

I hope this helps.

I previously used the Taylor K-2005 and just switched over to the salt version. I have not used any of the pool store potions in some time. Thanks—I just filled out the signature. It is 20k gallons. I will work on getting the TA down.

If you haven't already done so it would be good to buy a drop test that gives you FC and TC. These are important parameters to monitor and if you ever need to SLAM you'll need it to go above 10 ppm FC. It's not cheap as an adder I think around $100 (seems like it used to be a LOT cheaper than this). Or you can buy just the reagents for $30-40.

I hope this is helpful.
