New Skimmer has spinning disc at bottom??

I'm replacing my Hayward skimmer (1082) with ones on Amazon.com. There is a spinning disc at the bottom? There wasn't a picture of the bottom on the Amazon page. Anyone know what it is - it looks like it will just block some flow. Thanks!

It's a weight to hold the basket down.
Many times, a basket will pop up - and possibly dump its contents - when the pump turns off.

I keep a flat rock in mine to weigh it down just for this reason. Maybe my next basket will have a spinning weight.

Interesting, but that disc feels very very light. I can't see how it weighs down the basket. Can't stand that it will block flow - might return them for ones that don't have it.

No need, it will work just fine.

It won't block flow.
It is just heavy enough to keep the basket in place.
