NEW Raypak Heat Pump Heater significant flow restriction?

Three weeks is a long time for that size filter.

What is the clean pressure?

Time to backwash again and note the pressure before and after the backwash at the same flow rate.

Was the cell clean?

I would remove the flapper in the suction check valve unless you really need a check valve there.

What is the pump elevation relative to the pool?

I would put a check valve between the pump and filter.
Pump is higher than pool behind a retaining wall which explains the suction check valve location. As for the solution I am going to make a union adapter to run the garden hose in the outflow of the heater to flush out any potential debris perhaps that got in the intake before it was hook up. Other than that I am going to just make sure bypass is open when it’s not heating. Pump runs high once a day which will flush the heater daily, I understand leaving stagnant water in then is is an issue we aren’t cracking that check valve at normal 20gpm flow with bypass open.

I noticed the HP has some low tech on-board automation. The “AUX” function, pg30 of manual, details the ability to give a low voltage command to something. Could that be used to fully open/close a valve, like the Pentair Intellivalve? If so, I wonder if that could be set so that the valve controls HP bypass and eliminates the need to manually open/close the valve as the system cycles.

Or, maybe even more likely, pg32 details the control of a 3 way valve.

Thoughts?

I have been trying to figure that exact thing out myself. I have installed a Jandy actuator to my bypass valve and have a Pentair easy touch controller but it still requires me to touch a button, at least I can’t figure out how to make it close the bypass when it calls for heat. I was going to try connecting the valve directly to the heat pump next like you suggested. I think that may be a safer way to go.

The only problem I see is that without water flow through the heater on bypass the units internal thermostat won’t function properly.

Let me know! I’ve been curious. I’ll get a chance to play with this setup in the next month or so as it warms up. Let me know what you learn! Thanks

Any update on this? I may do some of this work this weekend. @hotpool2468

No update on the automation…still trying to figure that out…the bypass works fine. Attached is the wiring info..anyone on here have any advice. Heat pump has been enable on controller.

Hello, anyone have any knowledge on connecting a tapas heat pump to a Pentair EasyTouch. Photos below should explain the set up, I have the wires connected to the heat pump remote connection as shown and the wires to the expansion board bottom center JP3. I have enabled the heat pump in settings. Any help would be appreciated. The way it is wired now when I change it over to remote on the raypak control panel it kicks the heater on and stays on doesn’t respond to thermostat control at all.

When you say the bypass works… have you gotten the bypass valve to open/close based of HP demand? If so, did do that through the EasyTouch or through the HP?

I know the HP can control 2x 3-way valves and I’m hoping I can utilize that built in feature to regulate bypass of the HP pending HP demand… fingers crossed.
No I cannot get it to open close with HP demand I have to activate it myself. So not ideal. Current plan is to wire it to the HP control slots 38-40. This proprietary language these panels use is dumb….should have bought a Pentair heat pump. I guess that is the point $

Hello, trying to work out how to properly control my Raypak HP with a Pentair EasyTouch controller. Photos below should explain the set up, I have the wires connected to the heat pump remote connection as shown and the wires to the expansion board bottom center JP3. I have enabled the heat pump in settings. It isn’t working properly…Any help would be appreciated. When I activate remote on the raypak control panel it kicks the heater on and stays on doesn’t respond to thermostat control at all. Just on… I also have a bypass valve with an jandy actuator that I want to control when calling for heat. Any help would be appreciated.
