New pump too big?

I have a Intex 16" Sand filter saltwater system. Pump failed. Decided to just replace the motor. Bought 1hp Doheny. Now I'm second guessing. Is that too powerful for the sand filter? It has 125 lbs of sand. (They say is a 100lb sand capacity but it took 2.5 bags to fill past minimum line).

Your filter is rated for about 28GPM. Which pump did you purchase?

Doheny's website has at least 9 different 1hp pumps for above-ground pools listed all saying Doheny on them.
