I have a 22x52 about round pool. My pump exploded during the Texas freeze and I need to quickly buy a new pump fast. I have a 16" sand filter.

I want to purchase an Hayward 1.5 Hp pump. Do I need a larger sand filter too or would 1 HP be a better choice?

I have searched but can not find a simple min sand filter size for the pump I want.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

would th 16" sand filter be ok or do I need a bigger one?
You know Texas ... bigger is always better. Ha. Probably less backwashes with a larger filter, but not something you need to rush out and do in my opinion. I suspect the 16" is doing fine for your sized pool as long as you are vigilant with the chemical testing using a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C.
