Good Morning! I am in the process of finalizing plans for a vinyl liner IG pool. It will be galvanized steel walls and I'm wondering whether an SWG is a good idea or not. I am worried about the salt causing corrosion problems with the steel walls and shortening its life span. What are your thoughts?? Also going back and forth between sand filter and cartridge. I am going to visit the pool builder tomorrow to sign up and just want to make the right decisions. TIA!!

Welcome! Congrats on the plans! Bottom line: SWG/Salt is totally fine when install is done correct. Tons of people here can verify this. You are wise to educate yourself about this and I have provided some links for you to get a very foundation of knowledge. 3rd post of this thread talks about steel walls are properly installed and protected with zinc or magnesium sacrificial anodes, then there should not be a corrosion problem with more detail
This thread talk about very minor reduction of steel's life, maybe 2 years lost of 50 years.
Last post of this thread reminds us that most of the chemicals we add have salt, and even without a SWG you still might have 1k+ salt in a few years, not terribly less than a SWG level!
2nd post of this thread reminds you to check the steel pool manufacturer's warranty to make sure SWG doesn't void the warranty.
And this thread talks about certain SWG being made specifically for AG pools, and that if you splash a lot of water out, hosing walls down might be a worthwhile option to protect your investment.
