New pool, what is this? And another question.

Just had a new pool completed and I’d like to know what this is. It’s an eye sore and I’m hoping it can be moved or at least lowered. Also are there any other options for skimmer covers? These are a tripping hazard and I’d like something flush.

The black thing on the tall pipe is your spa air blower. It could be lower, just as long as it's not so low it starts sucking debris from ground level.

My spa does fine without a blower; with pump speed over 3000 rpm, it sucks enough air without needing a blower. Perhaps you could do away with yours if it bothers you. If you do so, get a 180° PVC bend so the intake is pointing down.

As far as skimmer lids, I dunno. That one looks pretty standard. It seems more dependent on the height of the skimmer itself relative to the deck. You might try taking a lid to a pool store and see if they have something the same size but flatter.

Does it have to be above the level of the spa?

Actually the bottom of the motor has to be higher than the water level in the spa. If it isn't the water will come out around the motor intake vents.

That is really an unfortunate installation. Do you have a raised spa? From your pics there will be no relaxing in that chaise lounge when that thing is on. The motor inside is the same as the ones used for whole home vacuum cleaners and there is no sound insulation on them.

So I used a laser level and it showed that 14 inches can be cut off the pipe and still have the motor above the water level. That should make it much less obtrusive, especially once the pipe is black. The blue tape is the same height as the top of the tile.
