Hello TFP,

I just wanted to start by saying thank you all for your contributions and expertise. I have been lurking on the site for a while and saving $ for my new pool. Wanting to stretch the money we have saved as far as possible we have opted to take the owner builder route.

Did you hear my sigh? I am still a bit apprehensive but after seeing Vudoo’s results and reading his story here https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/78346-New-DIY-Pool-in-Phoenix I believe we can do it. Vudoo’s build has all of the elements I am looking for in our pool – with the exception of the depth.

I have ~9 years experience creating architectural plans and am loathe to pay $ for plans. That being said I have never had a pool before so I think I may go that route. I think BYOP’s premier package is my top contender currently. Mostly due to the help with Backyard design and In-Floor cleaner design.

In my exploration of TFP I came across a build in California at one point where they had leveraged fiber lighting to illuminate the edge of the stairs into the pool and also some individual glass tiles set into the bar area - it looked amazing! any thoughts on fiber lighting?

I will get my signature done as soon as I am able to populate it with something.

Welcome.

While I'm not a huge fan of in-floor cleaners, the two major manufacturers (A&A and Paramount) typically take your pool design and they optimize the layout of their systems for your pool. Not sure what BYOP offers in that respect other than being a middle-man in that transaction (and charging some kind of premium in the process...).

Personally I think you're better off with a high quality robot and saving the money spent on an IFC system for other upgrades (premium tile, plaster upgrade, etc), but that's just a personal opinion.

Also, look up AquaBright here on TFP. It's a very intriguing alternative to plaster surfacing and we have a couple of folks here in TFP that have gone that route and are very happy with it.

Good luck with your build.
