New pool SWG advice

Good day to everyone.

I'm approaching the 30 day mark and want to be prepared for the sag startup. To keep things in the CSI of .3 to .7 I have only had to add chlorine and adjust my ph with acid or aeration.

I have between 9k and 10k gallon pool. I will add salt, broom, run the pump like crazy, test after 24 hours and if I'm lucky and land at 3000ppm start my generator--right? I have a small pool, an oversized IC40 and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Should I get my chlorine up before the salt so when the level diminishes due to 24 hours of not adding chlorine and sunlight doing its thing I'm not at 0 when I finally turn it on or can I add a little liquid chlorine as needed?

Yes, be sure to have the FC level within range from now and after you start the SWG. As you noted, let the salt fully dissolve and brush it around a bit to help. Allow salt to blend with the water for 24 hrs before starting the SWG. But once you add the proper quantity of salt per the PoolMath APP, you can consider that salt goal met. Monitor your FC level after activating the SWG and adjust pump run time and/or SWG output to maintain a healthy FC level per the FC/CYA Levels.

Just to clarify--after I get the salt mixed in, test for salt levels obviously and chlorine -- add chlorine to get to proper level THEN startup SWG and monitor/adjust as needed to maintain a good level. Thanks for the help!

Test your salt levels with a K-1766 before adding the bags of salt. You might already have a substantial amount of salt in your water already.

Make sure you get the purest salt you can find with no additives. This is good salt that's widely available: Diamond Crystal Solar Naturals Water Softener Salt Crystals 100012454

I have 200 ppm salt currently. I have that salt available but I also have this salt available. This isn't better?

That Diamond salt will work. Yes, test the FC to ensure you are in a good FC range to avoid algae. When you start the SWG, you'll continue to test/monitor the FC closely for the next few days as you get the hang of pump run time and SWG output to ensure it's holding where you want it. As for the salt, once you dump the # of bags in per the dosage indicated by the PoolMath APP, it should be good. You can test to be sure you are in the ballpark, but it should be very close.

After using both Diamond Crystal products, water softeners and pool salt, I prefer to pay the small difference in price and buy the Diamond Crystal Splash Ready Pool Salt.
