Hi all, day two of my new pool. Pebble bottom was plastered yesterday and i'm having a bit of issue with the chemicals.

Yesterday testing showed:
PH 8.0
TA 140

I added 30oz of 31.45% Acid

This AM testing showed:
PH 8.0
TA 150

Added 50oz of 31.45% acid.

Testing 8 hours later today showed:
PH 8.0
TA 140.

I have the spa waterfall spillover and pump on 24x7 since startup and i'm dumping acid in the deep end.

My pool isn't that big and i'm confident all water has circulated last night and today.

I'm trying to get TA down to 100, then adjust PH. No Chlorine is to be added yet which is my there is no FC reading posted.

Thoughts??

Mike

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

New plaster. What kind of startup is your plaster company having you do?

Your waterfall will drive up your pH too. Does it need to be run per the plaster company?

Plaster company gave me a sheet that lists day by day what to do. In summary,

Day one:
test PH, ALK, and CH. Adjust ALK to 80ppm using acid.
Reduce PH to 7.2-7.6, brush pool 2x a day.
add the Sequestering agent (done)

Day 2: Same as day one but no sequestering agent

Day 3: sames as day 1, no sequestering agent, ok to add chlorine.

Forgot to mention CH was 100 on day one.

You need to get aggressive with the muriatic acid additions. Are you using PoolMath?

Be ready to add CYA on day three with chlorine.

How are you planning to chlorinate? The UV device is best to be unplugged. In Sacramento you get plenty of UV from the sun.

Yes I am using pool math, and if I am correctly using it, it only says...at this point based on the last readings the following:

12,441 gallons:
PH Now is at 8.0, target of 7.4:
TA Now is 140, target is 80

It says under the PH section to add 30oz of 31.45% acid.

Which if I am correctly using it, is what I have done twice, perhaps I am making a mistake?

Mike

Your numbers are correct. That means your pH is higher than 8. You cannot test higher than 8.

So, add what Poolmath says, circulate the pool for 30 minutes, test pH, add again, repeat. Test TA about every 3 or 4 acid additions to update PoolMath.
