Been checking out the forums and decided to join. First post here. I’ve worked with pools a while ago but this is my first time owning one. Bought a 28’ Coleman from Walmart. My cousin is in his 3rd season with his so I figured, if I can get 3-4 years out of it, it’ll be worth it. He gave me some tips, including checking out this site.
He showed me some of his upgrades, so I went ahead and started with upgrading before I even filled it. Cut out the original suction ports and replaced with 1 1/2” pvc fittings, added a skimmer, inherited a 1.5hp Hayward pump and 150lb Hayward sand filter. Needed some gaskets and a new basket. Also added a new Hayward inline chlorinator. Plumbed it all up yesterday, just have to change the pump and filter parts. Pool is full and hope to have the filter running tonight or tomorrow. Threw in 3 gallons of bleach yesterday to try and keep the water for a few days. I know I need to add some other stuff but have to wait until I have flow.
Any other tips you have, suggestions are welcome. Don’t mind the blue tarp, I’ll be taking care of that soon enough

In the future, avoid those indoor style PVC parts. You want to use schedule 40 PVC for outdoor pool use. Nice to have you with us.
