Just set up an intex 12x24x52 swg pool. It is almost full. Have set up sand filter and swg. Don’t know what to do next…. We just got a tf-pro salt test kit and aren’t sure how to use it but tested the TA and PH.
TA - 200
PH - 7.2
We are filling with well water, so water may be hard.
Next step????

Welcome to TFP! :wave: Here's your plan once the pool is full with water moving:
1 - Do NOT start the SWG yet. You must wait 24 hrs. Add the recommend amount of salt now to start letting it dissolve. Somewhere around 3,200 ppm worth probably, but check your owners manual. Use the PoolMath APP (Effects of Adding) to help with the amount.
2 - Add stabilizer for a CYA goal of 70. Use the sock method.
3 - Leave the pH and TA alone for now.
4 - Add only about 2 ppm worth of liquid chlorine. Do this this evening, then test again tomorrow. Do not let the FC fall to zero, but try to keep it around 2-3 ppm all day.

Tomorrow evening turn on the SWG to start producing chlorine. Use your test kit to keep the FC in the ideal FC range as noted on the FC/CYA Levels.

NOTE: Water from a well generally means iron. Do not be surprised if the water turns green or ice tea color when you add chlorine. Also watch for staining. If you see this, put polyfill in the skimmer right away. Try to filter as much out as you can.

That's a good start. Let us know if you have any questions.

Adding CYA:
To increase CYA via granular stabilizer, place the required amount as calculated by the PoolMath APP into a white sock and place in the poolside skimmer basket. For those concerned about suction flow to the pump, suspending the sock near a return jet or from a floating device will also suffice. Best never to allow undissolved granules to rest directly against the pool surface. After about 30 minutes of soaking, squeeze the sock continuously to help it dissipate. Once dissolved, consider your CYA adjusted to that programmed (target) level. CYA test readings should show a rise in 24-48 hours, however some pools may experience a longer delay to fully register. Best to confirm final CYA in about 5-7 days before adding any more stabilizer/conditioner.

Ok .. thank you. Trying to test for CYA now so that I know how much to put in sock. Test kit instructions say: Fill the red-capped CYA to 7.5 ml with pool water.….. and the 15 ml mark with R-0013.
The red capped CYA? Is this a bottle with pointed top and redd cap that pops off? If so it has no measuring marks on the bottle. So do I use the cylinder bottle to measure and pour that into the red pointed capped bottle?

I would contact tftestkits and get that resolved.

To test you cya till you get a new bottle.
its a 50 / 50 mix of pool water and r-0013
10 and 10
or 20 and 20
or 25 and 25

Use one of the other graduated cylinders to get the 50 / 50 mix then pour it into the bottle to shake for 30 seconds

Did you put any granduals in the sock yet? If no, put 1100 grams to get your cya to ~40

Similar sized pool, mine takes 900g to hit 40ppm.

I tested as @FlappyLipps suggested. The black dot never disappeared and the tube was filled to 30. I called tftestkits and e sending me a new bottle. I am attempting to do what @koffey suggested but trying to figure out how much 1100 grams is In lbs. according to my research that would be 2lbs 6 oz?

little less than 2.5lbs cause 900g is ~2lb

If you need to test FC for an actual level, use the FAS DPD, powder and reagent. The OTO (yellow block) is good to see if there is chlorine in the water for a quick check once you know your pool.

I added a little over 2 lbs CA on June 28, 2023 as @koffey suggested. Everything was testing fine except ph has been high each testing. Had to go out of town for 6 days, July 5 - 10. Water looked crystal clear when we got back except for some leaves in water, which we skimmed out. Brushed, vacuumed the tested everything today… here are the results:
Block Test:
CL = .5
PH = above 8.2

Other Tests:
FC = 1.5
CC = .05
TC = 2
CH = 125
TA = 230
CYA = 40

Should I add anything?

Chlorine right away. About 5-6 ppm worth. It should never be that low. Remember to reference the FC/CYA Levels to keep the FC at the proper level.

About 5-10 minutes after adding the chlorine with good water circulation, add enough muriatic to lower the pH from 8.2 to 7.2. When the pH rises back to 8.0-8.2, repeat the process. Each time you do that it should also help to lower the TA. Over time, you can let the TA fall down to somewhere between 50-80. Lots of flexibility with the TA.
