At a 90 CYA. The SLAM FC will be 35 and while it can be done, it will use crazy chlorine. High FC burns off faster (anything 22 ish and above) so you will be fighting 2 battles to maintain the SLAM levels. A drain or water exchange would be the best first step.

So there’s really no way to do it without doing a water dump? That’s what I was trying to avoid

Well, you can have a harder SLAM and when its over you will need several extra ppm per day of chlorine. You will probably grow tired of the chore and the cost rather quickly.

Reccomended FC levels are listed in the FC/CYA Levels. PoolMath will calculate how much bleach you will need to SLAM and/or maintain afterwards.

If you choose to drain, the fill water from any source will have 0 CYA. A 50% drain would be a 45 CYA afterwards for example.

Now, if you wanted an excuse to go with a SWG, we reccomend a 70 CYA and you would not have to drain nearly as much.

You have to be careful when you drain any pool, but especially a liner pool. If you have high ground water surrounding your pool, you can displace the liner. There is a way to exchange water without draining any, but it uses more water. Read about "No Drain Water Exchange" about halfway down this page:
This is what you have to watch out for:

I’ll definitely have to look hard into all of this. This is a lot to take in
