Hello everyone, first time pool owner here, hailing from South Florida. Long story short: We moved from a 2-floor townhouse to a 1-floor single family home about 6 months ago. Now applying some TLC to bring it all up to par. AFAIK, our pool holds about 12k gallons, was built with the house about 23 yrs ago, has been lightly maintained (the basic stuff) but hasn't seen much change since then (equipment, structure, etc.). And while it looks decent and is very usable and entertaining, it's obvious that it's time to refurbish/refinish. While I don't have any original documentation to go by, I have researched and documented as much as I can by seeing what we got, talking with previous owners and neighbors.

At first I didn't want a house with a pool, mainly due to the added expense in upkeep and operation, but my younger son works at a pool store, so our agreement was that he would take care of it. During the property purchase process I had a very thorough inspection done on the house and its features, the pool came out mostly fine: no cracks, no leaks, just minor details and recommendations.

After much reading and researching, this past weekend I finally self-installed a SWG (in this case I went with a Jandy Truclear system, which so far has been working great, while keeping an eye on water health), I have also repaired/refurbished a few things here and there that were neglected for so long (most of the time I am a DIY guy and enjoy learning new stuff, unless it's way beyond my abilities). For many years, the pool had a gas-powered water heater, which now is a heap of scrap metal due to neglect and lack of use, well, I removed it and don't plan on replacing it, not really needed down here. Otherwise, looking to learn more, keep everything in check and we'll see how it goes... Thanks everyone!
