Hey all, I'm very new to this. I bought a house and will be closing this week. I did a final walk through and took pictures of the pool and its equipment. It looks ancient at first glance. Take a look..

After seeing some of the set-ups around here, I'm just flabbergasted about what the previous owners are leaving us with. They definitely did 0 maintenance to the pool (and the house, but that's another story).

I am buying the kit.
I am going to follow the SLAM process.
but i dont even know where to start with this equipment. The pool inspector passed it all but stated that the filter and the controllers were in poor condition.
I'd just like some help and perspective. it seems very overwhelming.

Welcome to TFP.

You know you bought a fixer upper.

I would not fool with the old equipment. Replace the pump, filter, controls, and electrical. Your pump and light needs a GFCI CB at a minimum. And I would install a SWG.

I would go with a Pentair Intelliflo3 011078 with control panel and IO Board relays for lights and SWG, CCP 420 cartridge filter, Intellichlor SWG.

Lower cost alternative may be a Circupool 3HP VS pump, Waterway cartridge filter, and Circupool RJ45+ SWG.

Yeah, you need to follow the SLAM Process to clear the water.

That combo would qualify you for Pentair's extended warranty (3 years), because you're buying 3 or more of their products. But they must all be purchased on the same invoice. If you go this route, be sure you understand how the warranty works and that you satisfy the requirement for the extended warranty.

Congrats on the new house and pool, and welcome to TFP! You may be new to all of this, but you've already done the most important thing you could have: finding TFP!!

Welcome, once you find your footing (so to speak) it’ll seem way less overwhelming.
