Okay. And after adding the full jug of chlorine and testing about 35 minutes after adding, the FC level came up to 5 ppm. Should I add more to get the FC to 8?

Yes, I would add about 80 oz more. Based upon this one test, it seems like your pool is more like 18K gallons. I would use 18K as your new gallon reference. You can always adjust it better as you do more tests..

Why can you not do the CYA test? Are you comparing colors for determining the FC level or are you counting drops?

That specific test kit hasn't arrived. I have a basic version of the Taylor test kit. And I'm comparing colors.
