So we got our new pool last year, however, did not get a pool heater at the time of installation. We are getting a Hayward 250BTU heater installed this spring by our PB. 1st question Is this the appropriate size heater for to 10,000-gallon FG pool?

Also, how will having a heater effect how I manage pool chemistry? Do I need to keep anything at different levels as to not harm the heater?

Thank you
Dan

The thing about heater BTU size is that it all depends on what you’re trying to achieve. There is no “right” size.

A 400kBTU is going to heat your pool twice as fast as a 250kBTU heater but, at the end of the day, it’s going to cost the same because a BTU is a BTU and it takes a fixed amount of BTU’s (heat) to achieve a given temperature rise.

It takes 1 BTU of heat energy to raise the temperature of 1 pound of water 1 degree F.

So what are you trying to achieve with your heater??
