Lindsey, please reconsider going to the pool store. They will sell you incredibly overpriced chemicals that we buy at the market or hardware store. They'll jack up the wrong elements in your water if you follow the pool store method, then sell you odd potions and lotions that won't fix the problems that their original chemicals caused.
First off- ALL pool owners need a good test kit. One that tests at least *6* necessary elements for clean sparkling water. I will be honest and say I prefer the TF-100 from www.tftestkits.net
Others prefer the K-2006C found on Amazon. Either way you *must* get the kit with the FAS-DPD tester for FC and CC.
Your pool should be aprox 17,000 gallons. We hate to see the water messed up before you get a chance. Right now all you need is liquid chlorine (10-12%) found at the hardware or Walmart in pool section and some granular CYA (that's the stabilizer that holds on to chlorine so the sun doesn't burn it away in a blink). For now that is ALL you need. Write when you get them and I'll tell you how much to add later today, ok?
Welcome. It shouldn't be too big a change if you get started off right. Buy a good test kit, read the pool school links provided above, start using PoolMath, listen to the advice of folks here at TFP.
