Hello everyone, I want to thank you all for the amount of information that is in this forum. So I am doing an Owner build but I have been reading about the spa spill over as I have. So because I have this spa will I need to waterproof the interior and exterior of this spa? or interior and spillway? I am kind of confused on this as I never owned an inground before. Also I used the waterproof membrane from Home Depot before during a shower remodel, is that the same stuff and recommended?

It is kind of crazzy isnt it... I have something for you that you can pick and choose off a list, this is from OGT tile.. :)

You will do waterproofing like this on the inside and outside of the raised spa, that will (hopefully as nothing is 100% guarantee) stop the water intrusion from going through the wall. You can feel lucky, I am doing a whole pool this way :)

I am using the following:

Primary waterproof
AQURON CPSP
1-800-342-4649

Mud Bed (Nominal Thickness - Walls 3/4”, Floors 1 1/4”)
4:1 Site Mix (by volume) – 4 parts ASTM C-144 sand to 1 part ASTM C-150 portland cement mixed with water or an acrylic/latex
cement-mortar additive.

second waterproof layer
MiraFlex Membrane C

Tile adhesive mortar

Lowes ordering granirapid-system
1401223 50 lbs grey model number
1401408 2 gallon model number

Grout
SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout

expansion joints
Latisil

Hope this helps :)

if you do not want effervescence like other raises spa then yes it is needed... if you do not mind a bunch of white salt looking substance constantly coming out of your tile then no need to do all that.. You can pick from each category what products you want to use, I just put what I am using above.. That granirapid is the most expensive tile thinset they make, it is hands down the best product out there...

Here is a search that people have asked for years why there spa tile or rock on the outside looks like its weeping salt..

When it comes down to it I am still debating between the 2... Because I am going with Laticrete epoxy grout I may go with 254...

They are both great thinsets, the Laticrete Platinum 254 must Wait 14 days after the final grouting period before filing water features with water at 70°F (21°C).

Mapei Granirapid is the fastest time to fill in the industry, it is also the most expensive in the industry :) You must wait 72 hours before filling with water, When installed in conjunction with Ultracolor Plus FA grout, Granirapid will allow water submersion in 72 hours.
