New Pool Build: Scottsdale, Arizona - Pool + Kitchen + Putting Green

"Thanks, and again, thank you for helping me with the tile. I am leaning toward the same finishes as your pool, hopefully you don't mind me copying your look."

... Not minding at all! I'm so flattered. Now you REALLY gotta post pictures!!

It is always exciting to come home and see more progress was done on the pool of your dreams. The rebar crew came today and now I can see the shape of where stairs are, the layout of the baja decks and exactly how the raised spa looks.

The plumbers also came back and finished the plumbing in the raised spa, added the water valve zones for the in-floor cleaning system and hooked up all of the equipment and did their pressure testing.

One minor change to the design occurred with placement of the pool when the Rebar Team did their thing. In our original design, we had the raised spa sitting just outside of the pool, about 6 inches. We were going to have the spa waterfall about 3/4 of the way around into the pool. Now, with our minor change of placement, the raised spa is completely in the pool (there will be ~5 inches of water between the edge of the pool and the edge of the raised spa. So why not make the best of it and now have the spa waterfall completely around and into the pool. I debated having the rebar and plumbing crews come back and push the spa out of the pool slightly, but after looking at pictures of "Floating Raised Spas" with infinity edges all around, I am digging the look. The one day I couldn't stay home and watch over this part of the build.....sheesh. What are your thoughts about the spa design with the "unexpected" change?

Tomorrow should be electrical work and then we have our inspection on Monday. I am going to hold off a few days for shotcrete because I have a quick trip and I want to be here to watch that process.

Of course I had to through in some pictures to show our progress. Exciting to see the shape come together.

That could look nice! I do worry about the splashing onto the coping decking though. That might cause a problem over time due to the wear from water over time. It might not but I want you to think about it. You will also have to be very careful about making sure to brush that area often.

Kim,
We obviously think alike. That is my worry as well, that the water will splash over on to the coping of the deck where there is 5" between the Decking and the Spa. I may have to add back in a "No Waterfall" section right at that point.

I had them add two in-floor jets on each side of the opening, so that when the in-floor cleaning system runs through the cycles, it should push anything between that opening out and into the pool. Great idea to also remember to brush that area as well.

The Shotcrete team was out and prepping for the Concrete at 5:00 this morning. I had to run into the office at the last minute, thank goodness for Uber since the Concrete Pump was blocking the driveway and thankful that my husband was able to stay home and monitor the progress and answer any questions the Shotcrete team had. I understand why it is good to be around during this process as there were a few little questions that we were able to make quick decision on. I completely forgot about the placement of the umbrella sleeves and I am glad the Shotcrete team reminded me.

The spa isn't 18" from the pool deck like we wanted in our original plan, it is now 14" from the decking. I am still happy with the look and not going to beat myself up over not double checking the measurement when the rebar team did their magic. I will make note to double check all measurements for my next build!!!!

Everything was prepped and ready to by 6:00 (sorry neighbors - I owe you some wine)

NO one else will even no or notice the spa is here or there! All they will see is a very pretty pool!

Love that someone was able to be there to answer the questions.

Have you started bonding with your pool? aka watering it! LOL

Make sure to ask any and all questions you might have no matter how small! We have all been where you are at one point.

Now is a good time to be thinking about what test kit you are going to get. That way you can start learning how to use it.

Not much new and exciting to report on the build this week. I am still "Bonding" with my pool shell and watering it every few hours. I hooked up sprinklers and an automatic timer to be as efficient as possible and patiently waiting for the cure period.

The pool build has been on hold for about a month now, while I finished landscaping the front yard and working on some hardscape (BBQ and Island) in the backyard. The tile team made it out this week and installed our waterline tile and spa tile. Everything is grouted and I love it. Next week we will work on the pool coping and then on to the next steps of the backyard landscaping.

Water Line Tile
Porcelain Tile - 6" x 6" Simulated Quartzite, Classic Beige - NPT Tile

Spa Tile
Glass Tile - 1" x 1" SIL Midnight Blue

man its looking great! love that spa tile too

My only thought on the spa location is access. how is it getting to the first step since you probably dont want to stand on the negative edge surface? is it kind of an awkward long step from the deck to the first step, or not that bad? or do you have to step into the pool first? that would bother me, having to dip in the cold water before getting in the hot water.

cant wait to see the kitchen and putting green too
