Moved here from New Pool Build Phoenix Arizona - DIY or BYOP or Other? Jim R.

This is exactly what I did. Chances are there are people on this forum in your area that are more than happy to share their subs lists.
Hello,

I have received some quotes from Builders I find excessive and want to research the O/B route. I am in NE Phx. Anyone have a starting list of subs to share or starting point? Contacted Desert Drafting to see if they can help as well. or if there is another thread I would be glad to see it.

Thank you in advance. Rich

Hey Rich! Welcome to TFP. This, your first post, was last week and no one has replied, so maybe this quick :bump: will help get it some action. It's been long enough that we wanted to at least greet you and welcome you to our forum. Have a great 4th!

cant help you regarding the Phoenix area subs, but in general finding subs... a few things to try; drive around and when you see pool construction going on stop and talk with the workers (ask if they have a moment first and don't take too much of their time, they are working for someone at the moment), call gunite contractor and ask if they were to build a pool who would they allow to work on their project? Do the same with rebar and the other possible subs, cant find a rebar sub? call a rebar/steel supplier and ask if they know anyone who does rebar for pools? once you get one sub most have a network of people who they work with or like and they tend to be happy to pass that information on to a customer. Allot of subs don't want to spend much time talking with you until you have a permit in hand so if you are wondering why no one is paying much attention??? It is pool building season and people are turning down jobs because they are too busy. Good luck and O/B is a stressful process, if you are patient and resourceful you can do it and save a substantial amount of $$$$.

I built my own gunite pool in CT and did a few friends too and found the subs very willing to work with independent people as they get worked pretty hard by the pool builders. Im in the construction business/ retired so I know how all works.

Basically the same subs work for most pool builders; gunite, plaster in particular as its really a speciality.

Sure you will do just fine.
