New pool build outside of Fort Worth, TX. Updated 7/30/16

Re: New pool build outside of Fort Worth, TX

I agree. It seems they started digging on May 28th and they just got it plastered on 07/07! WOW. You will be swimming in no time.

Your PB set the bar high for everyone else.... mine said 8 to 12 weeks from day of dig :( I just dug on 06/30. I am crossing my fingers and toes for swimming by 08/15.

Re: New pool build outside of Fort Worth, TX

Congratulations!!! Your build has gone super quick! What plaster are you using again (too tired to search for it)...

Cant wait to see it full of water!
Your deck looks like mine-or what mine SHOULD look like. Looks like they did a beautiful job! My base concrete is Rosemary and I think the stain is Smoke. Mine is still too beige is most areas. Yours looks nice and evenly done. Love it!!

Thanks! We used Stonescapes Aqua Blue mini pebble with Pebble Radiance Blue Pearl glass pack and abalone. Kind of a custom blend. We had specified blue and teal glass beads in the contract, and I guess all they could find in stock anywhere was the Pebble Radiance. That's what I was told anyway. Regardless the wife really likes it, so that's good enough for me.

On the concrete, I'm pretty sure we used a buckskin base with walnut release. The company that makes the coloring agents is local sort of in Aledo. It's called concreations, and their color chart if on their website: http://www.concreation.com/

I was really happy with the concrete. Didn't decide for sure until the night before, but it turned out really nice. Looks so much better wet though. I plan on sealing it after the concrete cures in 28 days(about 20 more to go). I've seen some sealants with curing agents added, but I'm just going to wait.

They have been making good time compared to some. And the subs have all done really nice work.

Acid Wash and Pressure spraying tomorrow!

If you're much north or west of ft worth TA that high wouldn't surprise me. Ogalala water is pretty hard. We used to farm with that water and we had to mitigate our soil every few years from the alkalinity.

The good news is that the alkalinity can always be lowered, but the calcium hardness cannot and at least yours isn't all that high. You would greatly benefit from using a pool cover to limit the evaporation because every drop of water that leaves the pool is going to get replaced by water with such high TA in it.

Looks like your water supply is going to take care of the bicarbonate start up for you!

Re: New pool build outside of Fort Worth, TX

It's full! Took about 53 hours with 3 hoses running. PB sending guys to do start up first thing in am. Actually they came by yesterday and put in some start up stuff, and a few odds and ends. But the grand pump/equip turn on is tomorrow.

Earlier today just about full:

This evening after brushing, and she's full:

Thanks Matt! I was all in for basic plaster, but the wife wanted her bling. Give and take and all that. Oh well it's only money...

PWRGeek, I don't know if that was a good call or not. It's how the plaster guys did it, but now it's been sitting there getting warm for 2 days while the rest of the pool filled, it's looking kinda funky.

Re: New pool build outside of Fort Worth, TX

Just some quick updates. Pool chemistry is getting dialed in. Still having some pretty high pH spikes overnight, but they are decreasing, and I preemptively strike with some acid before bed time. We've got some plants waiting to be planted. I got all my pool dirt spread on some low spots that needed it. And, though I'm almost embarrassed to show it, I used some stone taken from a previous bed that I used to build a little border around the pool equipment, which I then filled with river rock. I've never done masonry of any kind before, and I think I'll stick with my day job. Still it cost me less than $75 total for the project, including river rock. Waaaay less than I would have paid someone.

Wax Myrtles along a section of fence line.

My wife wanted a tropical feel, so we got a few things to get started in that direction. Dang this stuff is $$$$.

Where did all the dirt go? Hard to believe that's all I got out of all that dirt, but minus around the pool, and one other small location, it's all there.

And finally for my first(and last) foray into stonework.

Re: New pool build outside of Fort Worth, TX. Updated 7/23/16

GREAT looking pool. I hope that color is very similiar to Pebblesheen Blue Granite.

Thanks!

Still playing around with the plants. You wouldn't think with that much space you'd be hemmed in, but I am. The first septic lateral runs about 5' behind the waterfall, and there's plumbing right behind the waterfall. So I really have a very small space along the majority of the the length of the pool to work with. Off to the right things are kinda angled in, and I have a bit more breathing room.

I need something I can put behind the waterfall that is tall enough to break it up visually, shallow enough root structure not to go nuts on the plumbing and septic, and able to handle saltier water, as we irrigate off the lake, as it's pretty salty comparatively(though we will be using drip lines). Not feeling to comfortable with those palms in those locations either, the ones by the waterfall. Some say they aren't that invasive, but otoh, someday they will grow, and be too big for that space. We've thought about just putting them in large pots, and then we can move when we need to.

Any suggestions very much welcome and appreciated!

Also included is a shot of the stuff the cleaner picked up in it's first 4 hours of use. Today I got another load about 1/3 that size. Bottlecap included for size reference, was not in cleaner! :D
