Hello,

Found this forum a bit late, so my pool build will be done in historical fashion.

We bought a new house with a 50'x55' section of dirt behind it, knowing that we wanted a decent pool. We wanted modern, at least 40' long for swimming laps and some water features. The design went through some phases and a couple of PB choices. We also went to Hawaii and someone said 'Grotto'...so here we are, this is our future pool.

-40' long
-20' wide
-3.5' to 6.5' deep
-6x6 grotto with water running over it
-side waterfall
-ability to jump off grotto (so a way to go up)
-just small steps on the side, leaving good swimming area
-no spa
-minimal concrete around

The Dig

No major issues, no huge boulders. Took them 2 days.

Sorry, can't see to get the images to show up, it worked on the first post, but not in this one.

Hi,

The PB chose the equipment, but we're not finalized yet as he believes that the solar heating should run off the grotto pump and I am hearing otherwise. They are Jandy shop, so it will likely be two VS pumps.

This will be a salt water pool actually.

Hello and welcome to TFP. Nice design and others have covered you on equipment. My thoughts are on the "minimum" concrete around the pool. You may end up with lots of debris in the pool without it. Just a thought... Creating a signature line with basic info would be very helpful going forward to answer any future questions. Good luck with the build...

BTW - we use to live in Folsom some years back and miss some things about Cali....

Very good point...and I think the next two posts will covert it. I just haven't had time to figure out why the pictures are not showing embedded in the posts which would be much better. but I will post as is.

The Grotto build and the deck

Grotto build coming soon.

Here is the final deck. We have expanded from the original design.

1. The raised patio is bigger and two steps
2. The middle section was widened to 4 ft to give us a walking path and avoid dirt getting into pool
3. The right side lower patio was enlarged

Original with equip pad was 600 sq ft. Final is 945 sq ft.

Stamped concrete, with cappuccino color dusted on.
