New Pool Build in Miami

Congratulations on passing inspection this go around! I was very excited to pass my inspection when the guy came out to do it. I heard the dogs bark and went out, the guy was there and I said, everything is over here (garage was closed and thought he wanted to see the box) and he's like, I'm done... you passed and he signed the paper work. I was nervous though because life was hectic at that time. Glad it's over... I can't wait to see the pool completed! And those tiles!!!

You are right, Casey! It is always a good feeling to see that signature indicating we passed inspection! I've never actually seen an inspector at the house, but I think I prefer it that way...

Someone actually knocked on my door yesterday because they saw the PB sign in my front yard. They wanted my opinion of the builder as they were currently interviewing different companies! I had only positive things to say. So far, we have been happy with how things are turning out.

On Monday, we had electrical PVC installed.
Not very exciting as a photo, but all the same, exciting for me!

Tomorrow, they will be out to backfill.
Then, we wait for the tile to arrive -- hopefully they can start by the end of the week. At least those pictures will be more interesting.

So glad to hear you're satisfied with your builder. I'd be so excited to have your pool in my back yard! Can't wait to see it finished!

Yes, I completely agree, Northrider! They were out yesterday doing the backfill and rough grade.

This guy spent all day yesterday removing large rocks and compacting the sand with water.

Then, ironically, we had heavy rains all day today.
The only bit of standing water is a small section near the deep end.

Thanks, CC! We're waiting on the tile to be delivered.
Next week, no rain expected all week! Got my fingers crossed they will start the tile.

In the meantime, I finally ordered the TFT-100 test kit!

:testkit:

(LOL, What a great excuse to use that icon!)

I ended up using Artistic Pavers for my coping and really like them. I was able to borrow samples from the pool builder and put them around the pool shell. It let me see how they matched to the brick of the house and preexisting tiles too. I was also able to see how hot they got.

Like you, I used the Stonelock Sandstone. I felt that the brochure, the sample and the actual ones I got were are very similar. They look very nice.

Having the pool open for a week now, I like them very much. They have a good texture, not too hot, and pull the moisture from your feet to keep things from getting slick. The look is still impressive.

Thanks for the feedback on the Artisitic Pavers, Theep! They actually dropped off one small pallet of coping and I feel the color is lighter than the one we chose. I need to check with the PB about this. I really hate to delay the progress by waiting for the right shade. Which color did you go with?

As for an update, last week was a SLOWWW one. Beautiful weather to make lots of progress, but that wasn't to be.

Lights were installed. These are LED lights - two in pool, one in spa area.

I noticed that the spa light is actually on the "back rest" part of the wall and not down by the legs. I asked PB about this and he said the light will disperse better from up there. It seems weird to me, but in many other ways, PB's design and how he sees things has turned out well, so I am trusting him on this one.

Here's the bonding wire...

It went all around the pool and ended here around the Plumbing Tower of Tubes

You can imagine my dismay when we FAILED the electrical inspection!! Why, you ask? Because the inspector "could not access the area"! I was so mad -- the site was completely accessible and it was obvious the inspector did not even bother to walk around to the side of the house to check.

My PB rescheduled the inspection for the next day and the electrician and PB waited for the inspector to arrive so they could formally escort the guy around the side of the house to make the inspection. And, then we PASSED!

After the inspection passed, they "cemented" the bonding wire in the areas where it is connected to things.

A small pallet of pavers/coping was dropped off.

I poked a hole in the plastic to look at it. The color seems lighter than what we chose. I don't see any labels or descriptions on the pallet so I can't tell if it is right or not. The PB double and triple checked with me on the color so I will be disappointed if this turns out to be the wrong one.

Congrats on passing inspection. Looks like we are at the same stage now. At this pace your pool will be done really soon. My PB says that he is waiting on this one specific tile guy that he really likes to do my pool, but has to wait for him to finish some other pools he has already committed to from other builders. Hopefully sooner than later but I'm not really pressuring him yet.

well, we finally had a "tile & coping crew" (only one guy!) ready to start on Thursday and it rained!! He was able to work for about 2-3 hours at most.

20140529_171843.jpg~320x480

While it was raining, another couple guys came over and they discussed the coping in several areas including the raised wall and planters along the back part of the pool.

Yesterday was a beautiful day! Three guys arrived at 8:00 am and once again, they are discussing the raised wall and planters. After awhile, it makes me nervous; is there a problem? Turns out, it is 2 concrete guys and the same coping & tile guy. They need to build out the raised wall to cover the plumbing for the water features now that the inspections have passed. They were coordinating all that work. They also wanted to me understand that the planter opening would be smaller after the coping was installed.

More progress is made on the coping...

I'm not a huge fan of these "cut to size" pieces (the narrow rectangle), but it has to go somewhere I suppose...
20140530_190943.jpg~320x480

We also spent time discussing tile layout. With the tile we picked, arranging the tiles to create the pattern is extremely important. But, the tile guy seems on board so my fingers are crossed!!

Now, you cannot imagine my surprise when I hear noises in my backyard this morning. They are back! Installing coping and tile and building the wall. I'll post some pics later. I'm very grateful to see them here working as by the end of week they are forecasting 70%-90% rain.

Yipee more progress! We had one "cut to size" pieces on our coping as well, once the coping is finished you won't notice it as much and it will be seamless.

I love how your tiles have a 3d effect when put together, beautiful.

Jro I must say you have ALOT of patience...considering how long its taken. I think our builds started around the same time...if you were still in Cypress your pool would probably be done by now. Since we don't need permits or have inspections done the builds are finished pretty fast. I would feel better if inspections were done and wouldn't mind the longer timeframe.

Everything is coming together nicely!
