Just finished a rebuild of our pool equipment after our pump died and the DE filter was leaking. Wanted to share our experience and thanks to TFP members for their suggestions.
The old system had a 1HP single speed pump with a 60SF Hayward DE filter.
The new system uses a Pentair Inteliflo with Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 520 cartridge filter. Very impressed with both the pump and the filter. Currently running the pump at 1100rpm 12 hours per day and it's dead silent. The pump should pay for itself in short order. Hoping the filter needs to be changed rarely. The filter is doing as good a job as the old DE, clarity is excellent.
At the suggestion of many, went with the Doheney's Discovery robot to finish off the system, replacing an old suction side Kreepy Krawley Classic. This new Maytronics unit is much better than the older Dolphin cleaners we used to have for this pool. The basket design of the filter on the Discover is the biggest improvement along with the weekly timer.
