Air,

Welcome to TFP! Please read the document that Pat suggested and ask any questions you may have. We do things a little different than your typical pool store. Our methods work better and their way cheaper since they're based on sound science and we don't sell anything so you get the straight scoop. You do need a test kit asap. It's required for our methods since it's the only way you can get reliable test results. "Free" pool store tests are worth what you pay for them and you get very conflicted advice most of the time. I'd guess half our members are here because they gave up on pool stores after hundreds of $ on messed up pools. I strongly recommend you stay away from them until you understand the basic chemistry. You'll learn that pretty quickly here - couple of days usually. Also, please do add your signature. Our experts are all volunteers and it helps them efficiently use their time plus gets you advice quicker. Here's how to do it.

Good luck and again, welcome!

Chris

Hi fellow Texan
There are many members from Texas on the forum so you feel right at home.
Create Your Signature to help us understand what your current setup is for your pool.
Buy your own test kit - either a TF-100 from tftestkits.net or a K2006 from Taylor Technologies - sometimes carried by pool stores.
