Surprise/az
Since I have learned a lot of information form this site, I figured it would be a good to give back and share my experience with those who might be thinking about BYOP.

Next week will be the start of my owner build pool project. For the last month I have been researching and contacting contractors. I have no experience with construction, but finding out with the assistance of this site and the use of Google, things are lining up a lot smoother than I anticipated. So far the experience has been fun and I have learned a lot. Hopefully, things will continue to run smoothly. Only time will tell. I hope to keep you posted on each stage of the process.

Rectangle pool 30'x14, 420 Sqft, Baja Shelf, Staggered raised bond beam with 48" sheer waterfall, Travertine coping and decking, undecided on pool finish

The key to successful project management is more than just procuring all the right pieces. You must be able to integrate those pieces into an aesthetically appealing and operationally successful whole. THIS is where construction experience is key. You CAN do this but you need a plan and to always be thinking one or two steps ahead. There are a lot of people here that can (and will) help you as you go. Dont be afraid to ask questions, not only of us, but the people you choose to do the work as well. Having a well thought out plan that you can show your subs will help to limit misunderstandings of where you want to be at the end.

You can store them here on TFP if you become a supporting member as seen in this link:

This gets discounts on testing supplies and pool stuff as well as being tax deductible. It also helps us keep the lights on!

Since Photo Bucket started holding pics for ransom ($399 a year! to allow 3rd party linking) we have really been hesitant to recommend outside pic sharing. If you do find one you like you can use the img code to put the pic right in your post.

Hi Hdk! I'm here in Surprise as well. Although we didn't build our own pool (we would have gone that route if my husband didn't work out of state 85% of the time), our build was completed in August. Good luck with your journey! Make sure you post lots of pics and ask lots of questions.
