New Motor Smell?

Hello, I just replaced my old Hayward motor with a new Hayward (same hp 1.5) SP1580 and replaced all the hoses and control arm on the sand filter. First time running and have had it running approx. 7 hours. Unplugged it for the night (as I am too paranoid to let it run by itself since this is first time). After about 20 minutes I noticed a smell outside. The only way I can explain the smell is that I thought someone had been shooting fireworks and it smells like the after smell of fireworks. My question is do new pumps have a certain odor to them? Motor is not hot to touch, I couldn't read the psi as I had unplugged it prior, no smoke that I can see with a flashlight, and nothing on fire. I am not a mechanical lady by nature and am significantly ignorant on diagnosing things like this. If someone could give me a checklist of sorts, I can go through the steps tomorrow during daylight.
Thank you!

So you didn't notice any smell until after the pump was off? If that's the case I would think something else was causing the smell. I've never noticed a new pump having that kind of smell.
