We have had a nightmare summer. Pool was good. Pool Store said everything ok, then it turned completely green. We worked and spent lots of money till it was crystal clear. 3 days later, completely green again. We have now drained down pool and filling it back with water. What is a recommendation for a good pool test kit? Pictures below. It went back to green and now we are starting all over.

Welcome to TFP! Please see the links below for a recommended test kit. In my option, the TF series products are a better value, but you can choose either one. With one of those kits, we can make pool life MUCH easier for you. :swim:

What @Texas Splash said.

Without access to test the old water this is only speculation but the symptoms would suggest that your CYA (cyanuric acid also called stabilizer) was way too high, the effect of which is to greatly suppress the ability of the chlorine to do its job; kill algae and sanitize your water.

This is typically seen in mid to late summer after (over)use of chlorine pucks. The pucks contain both stabilizer and chlorine HOWEVER, the stabilizer continues to build up in the water while the chlorine is consumed, the net effect is that your water becomes over-stabilized reducing/eliminating the ability of the chlorine to do its job.

This forum is all about a much different approach to pool water maintenance which eliminates the possibility of algae blooms from happening but requires that you commit to the TFP way of maintaining your pool water.

We are a very friendly group and there are no stupid questions. To one degree or another, we all started where you are at now and found the TFP method a superior way to keep the water clear for far less than following the advice of your local pool store or route man.

Ask away.
