I changed liner and filled with fresh water on 06/02/2023. Water is crystal clear, i have stablized tablets floating but my chlorine and CYA does not register. Im paranoid of messing things up. Can i get guidance on what to do from here? My current readings are Total alkalinity is 80, PH is 7.5, Hardness is 200 with 0 for Chlorine and CYA. Thank you in advance!

Hi! Congrats on your new liner! Using tablets to raise CYA can take quite some time. Instead, the usual recommendation here is to use granular stabilizer (CYA) to get you to a level of at least 30ppm for non-saltwater pools and 60ppm for saltwater. Learn more here: Free Chlorine and Cyanuric Acid Relationship Explained. That will protect your chlorine from quickly degrading in sunlight and make it easier to hold a stable chlorine level. Once you're there, you can switch over to using liquid chlorine or your saltwater generator to replace what gets used up through daily use.

To get my CYA up to 30ppm at the start of the season, I use something like this, which you can find at big-box stores:

Also be sure to add liquid chlorine right away to prevent algae. It won't take long in warm water. See the FC/CYA Levels to ensure you are at the proper FC level for your current CYA.

Below notes in case you need it.

Adding CYA:
To increase CYA via granular stabilizer, place the required amount as calculated by the Poolmath calculator into a white sock and place in the poolside skimmer basket. For those concerned about suction flow to the pump, suspending the sock near a return jet or from a floating device will also suffice. Best never to allow undissolved granules to rest directly against the pool surface. After soaking for about 20-30 minutes, squeeze the sock often to help it dissipate. Once dissolved, consider your CYA adjusted to that programmed (target) level. CYA test readings should show a rise in 24-48 hours, however some pools may experience a longer delay to fully register. Best to confirm final CYA in about 5-7 days before adding any more stabilizer/conditioner.
