New laterals and pipe but...

hi everyone
I opened the pool this weekend installing a new pipe and laterals and of course sand in the filter before starting it up.
Pool has been runnng for 6 hrs or so.
As I started the slam process I notice a sign from last year, little pile of what I believe to be sand on the floor by the jets.
I guess the question i have is what else besides bad laterals will cause sand to come out?
