Hello all!

I just finished setting up an ultra frame 14 x 42 and it came with a 925 gallon per hour sand filter pump. My question is knowing that I have kids and we use the pool a lot. Should I buy a bigger sand filter pump? Next one above would be 1500 gallons per hour.

OR should I return my Intext SWG QS500 and just buy the INTEX 26675EG QX2100? My pool is 3,357 GAL and the QX2100 min pool size is 2,600 GAL. Would this big of a pump be overkill? When I return the SWG for just $100 more I get the bigger QX2100 and it's all-in-one.

Would love to get your thoughts.

Thank you.

I didn't know they had an all-in-one pump and SWG, that is awesome! Min pool size is 4,800 gal, my pool is 3,300 gal, so it won't work, correct? Are those min numbers hard facts?
Bigger is likely better so it should be fine. The issue with a combo is that they aren’t independent of each other in all functions so if one part dies you may have to replace the whole unit which is more expensive than replacing the one dead part.

So based on my initial post above, what should I do?

If you plan to upgrade to a larger pool in the future definitely go for the bigger filter - the bigger the filter the less you have to clean it
so its a win even if you never get a larger pool. Btw- most people go larger at some point once they drink the “pool-ade” 🤣
If the combo is a major money saver compared to buying the two things separately go for it. Sometimes it is, sometimes its not. Ymmv.
If money was no object I would say buy separately. I wouldn’t want a pool without a swg - if that was my only way to afford one I would do it.
Even though it’s larger, its still only a 1/2hp pump - it will be fine.
Also it has an actual pump basket which is nice. The pump/filters that come with intex pools are usually too small anyway so going up one size is common practice.

Thanks! I won’t likely be going to a bigger pool. And I think the combo is cheaper by $100 but honestly I’m not worried about $100 in this case. I will just upgrade to the even bigger SX2100 which has the pump basket and I will keep my SWG 500. That should run smoothly and get more suction power, right?

Hey all!

Just got my new INTEX 26675EG QX2100 and everything works PERFECTLY in my 3,357 GAL Intext Ultra Frame Pool. Boy, the water jet is now strong, hope that's ok? Going to run the pump and the SWG for 24hrs, per my Pinch-a-Penny store as I added some stuff to the pool.

Here is my setup. It is off by about 1 inch in one area, is that ok?

Let me know any feedback on my setup, thanks all!

You want to have the water balanced and then allow the swg to maintain that- they’re not very fast at adding fc so dose to target 🎯
FC/CYA Levels
with liquid chlorine now so nothing grows while you wait & are adjusting your run times.
Pool Care Basics
Here’s the guide for little pools
You need to be testing your own water with a drop based kit - depending on strips or the pool store is inaccurate, inconsistent, & inconvenient

Thanks! The pool store has been helping balance everything and it's been great!

One more question, I get a lot of small bugs and dirt that sit on the top of the water. Other than me getting a net to clean the top layer of the pool is there anything else I could do?

Add a skimmer

Thanks!

Another question :) Since I upgraded my pump to a more powerful one, it says I now only need to run the pump for 3 hours but the SWG manual says it needs to run for 5hrs for my pool. I should then match the SWG run time and add one hour, correct? I wouldn't do 2hrs SWG and 3 hours pump. Should be 5hrs SWG and 6 hrs pump, correct?

The daily loss is a moving target throughout the season. Think of a bell curve with little loss early/late and a steep climb to the top for peak season. Your job is to test and match the loss of that point in the season. More runtime equals more FC production for the first half of the season, and in the back half of the season, you'll turn the runtime down.

Figure out what your average daily loss has been for the last two weeks and do the math to run long enough to produce a little more than the last two weeks to account for the next two weeks.

Adjust as necessary.
