I was thinking of tape. It seems the connector nut is faulty, so I'll either try taping it or waiting for the water level to fall enough to replace it without a gush of water.
Update - apparently I got cheap, broken valves. Now I can see that both valves leak like sieves when the filter is running. I've played with the nuts, but there is actually water coming through the seams where the plastic sides of the nuts come together. I ordered replacement valves and went for the Intex saltwater w/ ozone filter as well
