In the mountains
Morning all! This is my first above ground pool. It’s up in the mountains at my cabin. I have everything (I think). Im looking for feedback on proper flow of equipment and if I am missing anything important like check valves or bypass valves. Here is what I have:

1. Intex 12x24 (8400 gallons)
2. Hayward Dyna-skim
2. Hayward 21” pro series sand filter
3. Hayward power-flo 1.5hp pump
4. Pentair IC40 salt chlorine generator
5. Pentair Mastertemp 250k propane heater

I’m installing everything using PVC. Am I missing any components necessary to make this pool “trouble free”? And please pardon my ignorance but in what order does the equipment go? I normally hire pros to handle this stuff but where the pool is in the mountains leaves me without much professional help so I am trying to DIY. Thanks!

Welcome (to both of you) to TFP! Looks like you have just about everything ID'd - except 3-way valves.. Sequence of water flow would be as follows: Water pulled into the skimmer > to pump > to sand filter > to heater > to the SWG last. You will want to have a way to isolate the equipment pad before & after these items with a shut off valve. 3-way valves are best suited as opposed to a generic ball valve. As an example, a 3-way valve before the pump and another one after the SWG. That way when you need to clean the filter or open the pump pot lid to clean the strainer pot basket water doesn't keep flowing in or out from the pad. Make sense?

If your equipment pad is close to the same height as the pool/skimmer, then you may not need a check valve before the pump. If the equipment pad is much higher than the pool, then you may want t o have a check valve before the pump and 3-way valve just to keep the pump pot full of water for easy prime at start up. I'll post an example of my pad so you can see.

My pad is VERY simple with no heater of course. You can see the check valve barely visible at ground level before the pump and 3-way valve. But everything else should make sense to you.

makes sense. my pad is well below the skimmer. i dug out and graded the pool to be below grade with the deck/skimmer to be at grade when entering the pool. the pad and equipment is under the deck on the left side of the photo. thanks for your help!

my pad is well below the skimmer.
That works well in the sense your pump should always be "force-fed" water from a higher waterline at the pool. :goodjob: No check valve should be needed, just the 3-way valves so you can isolate the pad for work.
