I run my FC at around 10 and my CYA around 70. Gives me a little buffer incase something happens. I have mine on a smart plug and found out it was acting up and had been off all day but I was still good
Once you learn the system and how your pool responds to it, we call this micromanaging. Day to day the UV demand is all over the map. If it's a crummy day today and you're a bit higher than you wanted, you turn it down to compensate, and then in a day or two it's blazing sun and you have to turn it right back up.I'm curious about my target FC. I was at 7.4 when I installed the RJ60. Per the installation instructions I set it for 75% and within 24 hours I was at 9.4. I backed it down to 50% and it dropped to 9.2.
We added a 'range' this last winter because there's many ways of doing it now. Folks run only at night for energy savings, and swing almost like an LC pool during the day. Or they have a honking oversized unit that only has to run a couple hours and spends most of the day off.PoolMath suggests a target of 5.
Thanks @generessler ... that's actually an outdoor rated smart plug. Each of the devices plugged in can be independently controlled via wifi/phone app. I used to control my Stenner pump for chlorine with it and I've still got my pool lights plugged into it. You may be right about code though... I'll have to check that out. Thanks!that exposed short extension/splitter cord is not to code and will cause problems sooner or later
I am running my pump 24/7 and now the SWG also. So I think I'm producing all the time, throttled by the percentage setting on the controller (currently 50%). In general I understand the concept though... give it time and be consistent in the timing of when I measure FC. My brain wants to "micromanage" as you say because it's a new toyAlways be mindful of *when* you're producing, along with how much
It's the quickest way to learn. Become one with it. Then sit back and trust you got the 'right guy' on the job and let him do what he does best.My brain wants to "micromanage" as you say because it's a new toy![]()
You ARESo I think I'm producing all the time,
I target 10 for the high loss days. On the crummy days it overproduces and I don't step in unless it's a teen. The best part about 'running hot' is that the swing is no longer an issue like it might be targeting 5. I have 2+ days in reserve at all times. It can handle the daily swing, an extended power outage, a whopper of a storm, an impromptu get together, or anything else the universe wants to toss our way.I'll set my target around 10ish and slow down a bit and see how it goes.
Makes total sense - thanks. I also just read up on PH readings when FC is 10+ so I'm good on that end too. Now if I could just get my 4.5 yr old S300i running again I'd be happy... but that's for a different thread. Thanks again everyone! The window for your whole day's UV loss is 6 to 8 hours and you'll be underproducing in that window, then catching up overnight.

I like your solution for the cords. Mine are driving me CRAZY.Lastly a photo of my cords dressed up a bit. I realized I didn't want to completely thread them through anything for when I need to remove the cell, so instead I gently s-folded the excess and inserted the bundle from the top of an extra piece of 2" pvc that I mounted vertically. A few wire ties and it's good enough for me!
