New House, Old Pool

We moved into a home last December with a 25 year-old gunite pool and spa (South Texas). We negotiated the price of a chip-out and replaster into the whole thing and had been looking forward to it. We decided to pay for pool service until that was done and take over afterward.

Well, it's happened. We now have a beautiful pool and we're going to try real hard to take care of it ourselves. The pool came with a Nautilus sweeper, we recently added a Betta (loving this so far), and we're figuring the ins and outs of pool chemistry one step at a time.

It hasn't been without its bumps though--the pool builder who did the replaster helped us clear out a nasty leaf clog that the weekly pool techs had not caught (I'm being charitable). We've also discovered a few bits of delayed maintenance and hasty shortcuts previous owners have made in the interest of saving a few bucks. But, we're in it for the long haul--we waffled for years over either having pool built of moving into a house with a pool. We're here now and we're embracing it!

This community appears to be very supportive. I'm glad I found it.

G,

Welcome to TFP, the greatest place ever to learn how to maintain your own pool... :shark:

Time now to take a good read through our Pool School and then float on over to one of our Subject-Orientated Sub-Forums and start positing all your questions.

Thanks,
