Hayward DE Perflex "Finger" Filter EC65
My wife & I bought a house with a pool but I'm not sure how old the filter is. I worked as a pool tech's assistant one season about 12 years ago so I'm far from an expert but I figured I'd take a shot at opening it. Most things seem okay - the water was pulling from the skimmer and going back out to the return line, but i ran into an issue with leakage a couple weeks ago because I noticed an obvious leak in the old lid for the filter. I purchase a new lid and was hoping this might resolve it. There's less leakage than there was, but there's still a small amount left. I attached a photo thats a bit difficult to see, but just north of the yellow plug you can kinda see a drop - so its not a LOT of leakage, but its a steady trickle that (as best as I can tell) appears to be coming out from underneathe the lid. The leak is also happening right next to where the pump wiring is (the pump is bolted down and the whole system is claustrophobic).
I also bought a new gasket for the white plastic disc (pictured below) that houses all the fingers. However, I'm not familiar with this filter and I'm not quite sure how this is supposed to be replaced? It looks like the gasket is sort of clamped into the white disc and im not sure if it needs to be unscrewed or something. It doesnt just come off, and I'm afraid of trying to force it. However, that's the least of my concerns now because while I was trying to inspect all the pieces - I noticed that in the center of the metal pole where the bump handle attaches to, there was a little metal thing (looks sort of like a clip?) that seemed to be keeping a washer in place. I barely touched it and the thing fell apart and broke into 2 pieces (also pictured)
The pressure gauge is also a little high, though the neighbor did mention that the pressure has always been more on the high side
I'm not really sure what the right move is here. I'm definitely not an expert, and it feels like I'm 95% of the way to being able to open the pool - but the leakage is a problem, and I'm concerned I'll need to buy a completely new filter. I do hope to be able to buy a cartridge filter or something one day, but I was really hoping I could get at least 1 or 2 years before having to sink thousands into new equipment. Does anyone have any recommendations?
