I have a 22,000 gallon pool with an attached hot tub. I currently have a 4,000 btu Jandy heater that doesn’t work. My question is if I am only ever going to heat the hot tub and not the pool should I downsize the heater? Money isn’t an issue just don’t think I need one that big to heat the hot tub.

So your 250 gallon hot tub has 2,100 lbs of water.
1 BTU can raise 1 lb of water 1 degree in an hour.
So if you have a 240,000 BTU heater (gas heaters have 80% efficiency) you can raise your hot tub 100 degrees in an hour. Or 50 degrees in 30 minutes.
