New Hayward skimmer/liner install

The Directions don’t say anything about the butterfly gasket for wide mouth extension, the connection between the basket part and the wide mouth itself, has anyone else install this gasket? Seems awfully thick, should I cut the butterfly gasket to make it thinner? Thanks

Just in case if anyone was wondering, I have found out the small butterfly gasket stays doubled up.

As long as you drain below the hole to install it, it wraps over the liner. Half of it goes on each side of the liner around the hole.

If you don't drain, you have to split it in half and install one half on either side and screw it all together before cutting the liner.
