We're having the pool drained for some plaster work and then refilled. This is a new pool this summer and after the first fill I had no idea what was I doing with the chemistry. I eventually got it figured out but this time I'd like to go about it in a more methodical way.

What's the standard way to do this with a salt water pool? What gets adjusted and added in what order so I'm not chasing my tail like I did the first time?

Thanks!

Thank you for that. When do I add salt? On the first fill because the plaster was new, we waited 30 days. They're now going to diamond sand and buff to remove rough areas and color inconsistencies, so no new plaster. Can I add salt immediately after filling and get the SWCG going again?

Normally I would say 30 days once again, but in this case, I would confirm with the company contracted to do the work since I'm assuming there will be some warranty involved.

So they said I should wait a week or so before adding salt. Would I add liquid chlorine in the meantime just to keep the level up until the SWCG is running? Thank you again, your answers are very helpful

They did not. But should I wait to add CYA as well? If so, how long? Again, they're buffing the existing plaster; not re-plastering or adding new plaster.
