New Construction Pool - filling now...

I'm more than 30 days after my start up now. Current numbers are:

FC 3.0
CC 0
pH 7.6
TA 90
CH 425
CYA 45
TEMP 54F

I have a lot of iron that precipitated out and sits at the bottom of the pool. When I brush it is when I really notice it. I have been running Polyfill in the skimmers and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. With it sitting at the bottom, is there any clear way of addressing this? I have read a lot of iron issues but can't really see a clear path to getting rid of it at this stage.

Also, I have another couple months till the water warms up much in Northern California. Should I continue to wait to add salt until I am ready to hook up the SWCG? Also, I have been maintaining the 3.0 ppm FC level throughout the start up. Should I now adjust up to the corresponding CYA level? Or just wait till I start the SWCG?

Thanks

Your CYA is 50. We round up.

Your target FC for CYA 50 is 3-8. You are at the edge of the cliff with a FC of 3.0 and should raise it too the high end of the range, 6 to 8.

What pool cleaner do you have to vacuum up whatever is at the bottom of your pool?

I'm still just brushing the entire pool a couple times a day down to the floor drains. I can't decide on a pool cleaner, so I just haven't bought one yet. I hadn't considered that as an option, but it would obviously need a pretty tight filter on it. Do you have an idea if any of the robots are better than others at a task like this?

How do you know it is Iron? Take some pictures...might be algae...

What is the source of your fill water?

Some robots have the option for "ultra fine filter." If you get one with a basket, you could also put some polyfill in the basket.

The Maytronics S200, which I have, includes the ultra fine filter.

I know we have iron in our well water, and I have always had this issue with out hot tub so that is the basis of my iron assumption. It's hard to track down on the internet exactly what size insoluble iron particles are - I was hoping a Pentair Clean and Clear filter would eventually catch this stuff. I haven't cleaned the filter yet to see what comes out of it, but I know my hot tub filter does catch some of it. I am not sure what the micron size of that filter though.

I ended up buying a Maytronics Prowler 920 from Marina. This is my first robot but so far it seems like it's the perfect solution for my problem. It'll be interesting to see what the ultra fine filters look like after a few days of running it.
