Well I thought I had a great idea, I have a wanda vac so I figured I could stick the hose into the skimmer pipe (like the instructions say and then use that to pump to waste to drain below the skimmer. Well apparently that seal isn't as tight as I was hoping so once the water level got low it started sucking air along with it. Guess I'm picking up a sump pump tomorrow. I guess this si good it will at least get me starting again on the correct CYA foot so I can maintain lower FC levels that 7+. Unless anyone has an idea for a temporary way to pump 6" below the skimmer. According to poolmath and some additional calculations I should have only needed to drain 10", got about 4 before it was too low to pump.

Stupid question of the day: How to drain below skimmer
Ok - I am sure there is a very simple answer to this, especially since I didn't find the answer by searching. How do I drain my above ground pool 6 inches below the skimmer? I can't do it by backwashing since once the water is below the skimmer water won't be running through the filter. Thanks.
